At The Agency Dallas, we are deeply committed to strengthening communities across the Park Cities and all surrounding areas through impactful philanthropy and engagement. As the premier real estate brokerage in Dallas-Fort Worth, we take pride in serving Highland Park, University Park, and the greater DFW region with unparalleled expertise and dedication. As title sponsors of the 2025 Park Cities 4th of July Parade —and sponsors in 2024—we’re honored to support a cherished event that unites the Highland Park and University Park communities in a vibrant celebration of patriotism, unity, and service. The 2025 parade, themed America the Beautiful, promises a spectacular display of red, white and blue pride, and we’re thrilled to spotlight the 2025 Grand Marshal, Jim Whorton, whose decades-long dedication embodies the heart of this beloved tradition.

A Legacy of Patriotism: Honoring Grand Marshal Jim Whorton

For nearly 50 years, Jim Whorton has been a highlight of the Park Cities 4th of July Parade, captivating spectators from atop his cherry-red, high-wheel bike. Known as the “high wheeler,” Whorton’s journey began in 1975 when he spotted the antique penny farthing in a Longview bike shop. “It looked like it was mine when I first saw it,” he shared at a Rotary Club of Park Cities luncheon honoring him as the 2025 Grand Marshal. His passion for parades, rooted in his childhood in Tahoka, Texas, has made him a symbol of joy and patriotism.

Whorton’s 50-year parade streak—interrupted only twice by a storm and the COVID-19 pandemic—reflects his unwavering commitment. From navigating the challenging “Beverly hill” to overcoming mishaps like water balloons locking his axle or losing his wheel bearings, Whorton’s resilience shines. “It’s the greatest day of the year in the Park Cities, our parade,” said former grand marshal Kirk Dooley. “And Jim Whorton has been a part of every parade I’ve ever seen.”

Beyond the parade, Whorton’s contributions are extensive. A former U.S. Marine, he has served with Scouting America  as an assistant scoutmaster with Scout Troop 70, led high-adventure camps, and coached scuba at six national jamborees. His work with the Dallas Archaeological Society  and 25 years at the State Fair of Texas—where he’s famously answered whether Big Tex wears underwear—further showcase his dedication. As Highland Park Mayor Will C. Beecherl proclaimed, “Jim Whorton’s devotion to the Park Cities and the larger Dallas community has advanced the lives of many.”

The 2025 Park Cities 4th of July Parade: A Patriotic Celebration

On July 4, 2025, the Park Cities 4th of July Parade will kick off at 9 a.m. from Highland Park Town Hall, following its traditional route to Centennial Park. Spectators can expect vibrant floats adorned in patriotic colors, celebrating the theme “America the Beautiful.” The morning will conclude with a family-friendly celebration at Centennial Park, offering festivities for all ages.

This year, the parade’s bike decorating contest gets an exciting upgrade through a partnership between Trek Bicycle Dallas Park Cities, the Moody Family YMCA, and the Rotary Club of Park Cities. Patriotic pedalers can join the fun, with Trek offering free safety checks for cyclists arriving at the YMCA around 8:30 a.m. This collaboration ensures a safe and spirited experience, enhancing the community’s celebration.

Supporting the North Texas Food Bank

The Park Cities 4th of July Parade is a celebration with a purpose. All donations support the North Texas Food Bank, which has provided 2.1 million meals for North Texans in need since 2016. In 2025, the need is more urgent than ever, with funding cuts threatening the nonprofit’s ability to serve its 12-county area. According to Trisha Cunningham, president and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank, every $1 donated provides at least three nourishing meals.

At The Agency Dallas, the leading real estate brokerage in Dallas-Fort Worth, we’re proud to support this critical cause through our sponsorship, helping combat hunger and strengthen communities across the Park Cities and beyond.
