Argyle is heading into a stretch of visible change. TxDOT's widening of US 377 through town is expected to take about 39 months, Argyle ISD opens its second high school in 2027 amid board turnover, and the town celebrates its 145th year with a first Argyle Jubilee on November 7, 2026. Together they redefine what living along the 377 corridor feels like.

What is happening with US 377 through Argyle?

In his August 2026 column published by the Cross Timbers Gazette, Argyle Mayor Ron Schmidt said TxDOT planned to begin construction on the US 377 widening this fall, with the project expected to take 39 months and span the entire length of Argyle. The reconstruction runs from south of FM 1171 in Flower Mound to Crawford Road.

An April 2026 report from NationGraph described $39.7 million in funding for the southern Denton County segment, with about 80 percent federal money and 20 percent from the state. That report said the road will go from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with sidewalks, turn lanes, new signals and a grade separation at a major intersection.

What is Argyle paying for itself?

In December 2025, the Argyle Town Council committed $811,275 to median enhancements within town limits, according to Community Impact. The money lets TxDOT install irrigation sleeves, 54 junction boxes and 4,698 linear feet of conduit for future landscaping and lighting, plus two median breaks serving Point Bank and the Waterbrook neighborhood. Landscaping itself is not covered. Town officials plan to apply for TxDOT landscaping grants later in the project.

What other road changes are coming?

The mayor's column listed a series of local improvements the town is planning or studying:

  • Extending Gateway Boulevard from FM 407 to Crawford Road, now in planning.
  • Roundabouts at strategic locations.
  • Possible new stop signs on Old Justin Road and eventual new traffic signals.
  • Several new digital speed signs.

The mayor also noted that the town recently received an AA+ rating for financial management and plans to eventually build a new police station, since the current one sits in a former laundromat.

What is changing at Argyle ISD?

Argyle ISD is in the middle of a major expansion. Community Impact reported in December 2025 that the board approved names for three new campuses:

  1. Scott Gibson Middle School on FM 407, expected to open in August 2026.
  2. Michael Ball Elementary School at 810 FM 407, which broke ground in November 2025 and is expected to open for 2027 to 2028.
  3. Argyle Legacy High School, created by converting the current Argyle Middle School on Hwy. 377 into the district's second high school beginning in 2027 to 2028. Its mascot will be the Redhawks.

Voters approved a $423 million bond in May 2025, according to the Cross Timbers Gazette.

Why is the district's leadership in the news?

The Cross Timbers Gazette reported a series of leadership changes in October 2026. At the October 19 board meeting, Board Secretary Matt Slaton resigned partway through the meeting, citing concerns about board leadership. After a long closed session, Board President Leigh Ann Artho stepped down from the presidency, and trustees named Sam Slaton as president. On October 22, Glen Rose ISD named Superintendent Courtney Carpenter its sole finalist for superintendent. She has led Argyle ISD since July 2023. The Gazette also listed an October 29 headline reporting that the newly named president had resigned.

Earlier, the board had walked back a policy on September 24 that would have let underclassmen choose their high school, and on September 29 approved bus parking and a baseball and softball complex at the current Argyle High School campus.

What should families take from this?

Our agents at The Agency Dallas who work Argyle and the 377 corridor hear the same questions from families: which high school will my children attend, and will that change? With a second high school opening and a leadership transition underway, the honest answer is to confirm attendance zones directly with the district and watch board decisions over the coming months. The academic reputation that draws families to Argyle has not changed, but the details of campus assignments are still being worked out.

What new neighborhoods are taking shape?

Argyle continues to add large-lot housing. Community Impact reported in November 2025 that Knight's Ridge, a gated 72-acre community off FM 1830 north of FM 407, plans 25 homes on lots of at least 2.5 acres, with custom homes priced from $3.5 million to $7 million according to developer Omar Oweis of Cana Capital. Construction was expected to begin in January 2026. Near I-35W and FM 407, Hillwood's Harvest House was planned to add 259 apartments and 90 townhomes, with completion expected in late 2026.

What is the Argyle Jubilee?

The town is hosting its first Argyle Jubilee on Saturday, November 7, 2026, organized with the Argyle Business Association. According to the mayor's column, it celebrates the town's founding in 1881, when the first locomotive arrived, marking 145 years. Plans include live bands, vendors, children's entertainment, a wine and beer garden and an Arbor Day themed tree giveaway. The town hopes it becomes an annual tradition.
